THE PROJECT
On August 12, 2026, the shadow of the Moon crossed northern Spain as a total solar eclipse unfolded above the horizon.
For over a year, I had been preparing to photograph those few minutes—not simply to document an eclipse, but to create an image of what happens to the world beneath it.
The Shadow Between grew from that idea: a project exploring the transformation of light, colour and landscape as day gives way to totality. Months of planning, testing and preparation ultimately converged into a single evening, one artwork, and a short film created alongside filmmaker Prince Berkoh, in collaboration with Nikon.
THE ARTWORK
Rather than allowing time to exist only in the sequence of the eclipse, I wanted its passage to move through the entire image.
The landscape transitions from the final warmth of daylight into the deep blue of totality, while the Moon gradually overtakes the Sun above it. Each stage was photographed before the eclipse and brought together to recreate the transformation I witnessed as the lunar shadow moved across the landscape.
The result is not a representation of a single instant, but of an experience unfolding through time—a few extraordinary minutes compressed into one frame.
THE SHORT FILM
The Shadow Between, created with filmmaker Prince Berkoh, in collaboration with Nikon, is an attempt to translate what it feels like to chase totality—the anticipation, uncertainty and growing tension, followed by the overwhelming sense of awe when the world suddenly falls into shadow. Taking creative freedom in the way that journey is told, the film seeks to capture something beyond the eclipse itself: an experience difficult to put into words, and one I hope might inspire others to witness at least once in their lifetime.
COLLECT THE WORK
The Shadow Between extends beyond the screen as a limited edition artwork, created to preserve the scale, detail and atmosphere of the original piece. Each work is individually numbered and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, becoming part of a strictly limited edition.
