In her latest project, Angel Fux embarked on an awe-inspiring journey into the Cordillera Huayhuash of the Peruvian Andes. Over the course of 16 months, this high-altitude adventure culminated in an artwork of the Milky Way above glacial lakes and towering peaks, alongside a short documentary film, The Shot Above, showcasing the process behind the shot.
In 2023, Angel first visited the region, trekking for eight days through altitudes of 4,300 to over 5,200 meters. Despite her best efforts, she couldn’t capture the vision she had in mind due to logistical challenges and a lack of specialized equipment. Determined to bring this dream to life, she partnered with Nikon, who supported her return in 2024 to achieve her vision. This second expedition required meticulous planning, advanced photography gear, and sheer resilience to bring this ambitious project to life.
The final image is a masterful composite of the Milky Way and the majestic Andes, representing Angel’s dedication to blending reality and imagination in her work. Her film, The Shot Above, delves into the creative and physical demands of the project, offering an intimate look at the highs and lows of capturing this singular moment.
